Go Pound Salt - On The Bridge

I went to the Songbird "nest" yesterday evening. It was awesome seeing the place and catching up with old friends and meeting much of the rest of the team. San Francisco and the SOMA area has a great energy. I probably should have stayed longer and caught the Midlake show at the Great American Music Hall.

Go Pound Salt was one of the founding bands of the SF Noise Pop movement.  Influenced by Husker Du and Bob Mould, they made their own statement with raucous performances, poignant songwriting, and raw energy. This track is a great example of that.

Oh what the heck.  Let's be totally self-serving and post one of my own songs (again).  This is "Figure In Your Mind" which may or may not be about the music industry or maybe a girl.  I don't know, I don't remember.  I don't remember much from that time, nonetheless from an hour ago, dunno, maybe I should get my head checked. I don't even smoke pot. Smoke pot, smoke pot, everyone smoke pot, no matter what Sanjay Gupta says.  Hey, I work with a guy named Sanjay, he wants me to learn JSP, or at least use there PHP/SOAP calls. I feel dirty. Dirty bird. I use to live on 33rd street in Portland.  Or was it 34th?  Damn.  See?  That memory thing again.

Where's my coffee?

Go Pound Salt was one of the original SF Noise Pop bands. The Noise Pop scene came out of the SF/Berkeley punk world of the early 90s. It combined the harder edge aesthetic of punk with more the insightful and tuneful lyrics of indie art rock. This defines Go Pound Salt's approach.

I remember one show at the Bottom of the Hill. I was there taking photos and getting drunk. GPS was playing with the Swingin' Utters and blew doors. It was a wild show filled with fire and broken objects. They definitely left their mark that night. Either that or I had some issues with Tequila.

"We are a trio playing pop/punk music in San Francisco. We play music to have fun. We are not really a Gilman St. punk band, or a hipster Mission St. band. We have no gimmicks or wacky, kitschy novelty songs. We sound like Husker Du rip-offs and we don't give a fuck. We play what we feel and if you think we suck then go pound salt up your ass."

Check out this track from their self titled album. 2006 marks the 10th anniversary of this killer recording. I hope to feature more of their stuff in the future. Enjoy
